Harvey Braidwood-Staines

My name is Harvey Braidwood-Staines, my uncle introduced me to boxing to lose weight and learn how to defend my self at the age of 8. I fell in love with the sport straight away but was just perusing it as a hobby, I had an exhibition (no winner or loser), when I was around age 10, then carried on training. My uncle moved gyms with Ste Foster who was a great coach and I went with him. For around 2 years I trained consistently with my mum and my grandad being my biggest supporters, my grandad took me to boxing everyday and my mum was like my nutritionist, she helped me lose 20 kilos. After this I joined halliwell abc to box amateur because ste foster didn’t have his amateur licence. I had 3 skills bouts and then moved onto normal bouts losing my first one on a dodgy decision, but then quickly regaining my confidence winning my second bout, and I wanted to challenge my self, so I went to Ireland and boxed in the emerald box cup, there was a lot of pull outs so I had to move up 2 weights fighting at 54kg when I was only 48kg. I ended up winning the competition and entered into the regionals facing a tough opponent in the finals but ended up getting the win. Taking me to a record of 3-1. Then I ended up getting to the quarter finals of the nationals and faced a very good opponent who was 17-1. I ended up getting beat and got injured breaking my wrist in sparring, which was very upsetting, I ended up putting on 12 kilos and I took a 2 year break from fighting but I still trained very hard. I then boxed at 60 kilos against a boxer who has had triple the fights and was also a north west champion, I beat him and then I went through a tough time mentally and took a 6 month break from boxing. I then ended up getting back on track mentally but put on 14 kilos, taking me to 74 kilos. I wanted to start fighting again, and joined Walkden abc, where I have lost 11 kilos and I’m fighting at 63 kilos in 10 days, and looking to fight very regularly, and win a lot of things.
